The Institut Halieutique et des Sciences Marines (IH.SM), of the University of Toliara, was created in 1992 (ministerial decree n°92/1026 of 09/12/92) following the merger of 3 entities: the Marine Station (since 1961), the Applied Oceanology course (since 1975) and the Unité de Formation Supérieure Halieutique (since 1988). Its mission is Training and Research in the field of Marine Sciences, Fishing and Aquaculture, Marine and Coastal Environment.
The IH.SM is in charge of the training of senior technicians, fisheries engineers and oceanographers (Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctorate). Moreover, it can ensure the recycling of the agents of the companies according to their needs.
